Just two days left to win Isle of Wight Festival VIP glamping tickets. – As the outdoor festival season begins, ShelterBox urges you to ‘love your tent’
Of course ShelterBox loves tents. And so do the one million people we have helped to shelter after disaster. But now, as a summer of music festivals gets underway, we have joined a national campaign to make sure festival-goers and campers leave sites pitch perfect.
After last year’s Glastonbury Festival it took a team of 800 litter-pickers around six weeks to clean up the Worthy Farm site. Happy campers left behind 5,500 tents, 11 tonnes of clothes and camping gear, 6,500 sleeping bags, 3,500 airbeds, and 400 gazebos.
And that was just one of the hundreds of outdoor events across the UK every summer.
Abandoned tents and camping gear are a blight on the environment and the economy. So ShelterBox has teamed up with the Love Your Tent campaign and the Isle of Wight Festival to promote a nationwide camping clean-up.
Research by Love Your Tent and Bucks New University shows that 86% of total festival waste comes from campsites, and of that 71% causes lasting damage to local plant and wildlife.
Visitors to the Love Your Tent site can become perfect campers by adhering to the campaign group's ‘tent commandments’, including ‘Thou Shalt Respect Your Tent and the area in which you pitch it making sure you clean up after yourself,’ ‘Thou Shalt recycle your waste throughout the weekend, taking it to the relevant recycling facilities,’ and the friendly advice, ‘Thou Shalt invite any lonely campers for dinner or drink.’
And, to get everyone in the festival mood, there are still a few days remaining to enter a raffle with a great prize.
For just a £2 donation to ShelterBox you could win two Isle of Wight Festival Tickets for 9-12 June 2016, to include Glamping in a ShelterBox tent situated in the sustainable Love Your Tent campsite, including luxuries such as hot showers, flushing loos, an ethical café, and a secret acoustic stage.
Please note transport to the event is not included and will require the winner to book ferry tickets. Entrants must be over 18. Full details and terms & conditions via this link to the JustGiving page.
Entry to the raffle closes at 17.00 on Saturday 30 April 2016, and the winners will be announced after the Bank Holiday weekend.
